We are metal band based in the Netherlands, blending crushing riffs, intricate rhythm and atmospheric melodies with global influences. Rooted in groove, dissonance, and dynamic songwriting, the band draws inspiration from modern progressive metal while pushing beyond rigid genre boundaries.
It is funny how life turns out. Living in the same city back in India and being active in the underground metal scene, Sunil and Anirudh had never met. After moving to Netherlands, they have a phone call about buying cars through a friend. One thing led to another and they end up discussing music. They discover they like the same music and play guitar. What are the odds! Decided to jamm. Sunil knew Ashwin from work in India already and he was already in the Netherlands as well, so Ashwin ended up joining for the session. Hence, Quilla Karma was born.
After three bass player auditions, Sunil found Camilo online and it felt like a great match and we ended up making two songs right off the bat. After two drummer auditions and many months later, Anirudh ran out of patience and decided to teach himself to play drums and transition to drums completely. The missing piece now was a second guitarist and enter Arthur, who was Anirudh's colleague at work. Arthur got reeled in by Anirudh and now it's a full house! This is our story in a nutshell.
Vocals
Sunil is a musician whose dynamic range spans rock, metal, Indian classical genres. He played previously for the band Tripp Pilots in India. Life brought him to Netherlands and now he's sharing his talents here. Inspired by Tool, Slipknot, Periphery, he taught himself to sing before picking up the guitar at the age of 16. Sunil has cultivated a unique sound that blends his diverse musical influences.
Drums
Also from India, Anirudh was the guitarist in the band originally and switched to drums. One of the founding members of the band, he brings a lot of experience with guitar playing, music arrangement, song writing and production. Influenced by heavyweights like Parkway Drive, Lamb of God, As I lay Dying and progressive edge drawn from Tesseract and Monuments. Passionate about the music he writes and brings a lot to the table for the band.
Guitar
Ashwin is the third founding member, completing the trifecta. You might notice a pattern, he is originally from India as well. Back in uni days, he used to play for a metalcore band called Above Anguish. He is influenced by prog and modern prog bands like Gojira, Opeth, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre. He loves writing heavy riffs and makes our life difficult with technical and syncopated complex guitar parts with odd time signatures and polyrhythms.
Bass
Camilo, hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, discovered his passion for music at the age of 13 on the piano and by 16 he expanded his knowledge to playing bass. Having played in a KISS cover band, moved on to playing for hard rock local band in Bogota, then finally for a Death Metal band Insane Cluster, he is well versed with playing for any heavy music genre under the sun.
Guitar
Arthur is home grown. Coming from Netherlands, he's been playing guitar for as long as he can remember, influenced heavily by grunge acts like Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam. He brings in an old school vibe in the band and his heavier side is inspired by Pantera, Tool, Sepultura, Biohazard. Passionate about his instrument, and is always pushing himself and evolving with the sound.
